Technology Update – Scoutconnect, what is changing this fall?

Posted on Jul 28 2026 - 11:52am

An enhanced BeAScout.org experience launches August 3, making it easier for prospective families to find the right Scouting unit and learn key information before reaching out.

Since July 9, unit leaders have been able to update new fields in their Unit Pin through Organization Manager, including whether fundraising helps offset costs, if trial visits are encouraged, any additional unit fees, and the unit's meeting schedule.

Updates should be made before August 3 so families will see accurate, complete information when the new BeAScout experience goes live. Changes made before the launch date will not appear on BeAScout until the updated site is released.

Trail Etiquette: Who Has the Right of Way?

Trail Etiquette: Who Has the Right of Way?

Hikers vs. Bikers: Since mountain bikes are considered more maneuverable than hikers’ legs, bikers have historically been expected to yield to hikers on shared trails. However, because those mountain bikes are often moving considerably faster than said legs, it’s usually easier for hikers to yield the right of way—especially if a mountain biker is huffing and puffing up a tough incline. A biker should never expect a hiker to yield, though.

Eagle Scout: More Than A Rank

Posted on Jun 2 2026 - 7:45am

Through the Scouting program, Eagle Scouts build character and lifelong strengths that set them apart. To better understand these advantages, Scouting America partnered with The Harris Poll to survey thousands of adults and study how Eagle Scouts compare to people who have not participated in Scouting.

Annual Health and Medical Record

Posted on Apr 16 2026 - 3:17pm
The Annual Health and Medical Record (AHMR) is a vital document required for everyone in Scouting America. The AHMR is an annual requirement for all participants-both youth and adults - for everything from unit meetings to high adventure treks. Completing this form fully helps to keep everyone in the program healthy and safe. The benefits of an annual health check by your personal healthcare professional are numerous.
Benefits can include:
  • Early detection of health issues which may be identified sooner which can lead to better health outcomes. Healthcare professionals can screen for conditions like elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure, vision changes and so many others. Quick identification can help provide treatment before they can become serious.
  • Preventative care and review of vaccination status which can help to reduce future issues and illnesses.
  • Establishing a baseline of your current health data is important so that future comparisons can be made and monitored.
  • Patient-Doctor relationships are strengthened. The opportunity for you to connect personally with your healthcare professional is so important.
  • Health coaching tailored to your specific needs and health history. Preventing health issues is a key component and meeting with your doctor at least annually begins that process. Accept the responsibility for the well-being and safety of youth under their care.

The AHMR is divided into several sections. When to complete each of the sections depends upon which activity you will be participating.
